Discord is a communication platform designed with Gamer in mind, our Alliance can use a Discord server for various purposes, as it was requested by multiple players. Discord has some advantages, like ability to use Voice if you have, multiple channels, easy way to share images, videos and more. We can even stream the video of our gameplay to help others. It is a powerful tool. But as it is a tool independent from the game, you can get private messages from people outside of the game and outside of the alliance. Using discord is like using any other social platform or app: Can have benefits but can expose you to bad people. To keep our discord servers a bit safer we will only share the Invite code for our Discord in game, and only to people who belong to either USz, N1S, ShR or any other strongly allied alliance. Invite to our Discord server should be in a Notice or R4 mail in the alliance most often.
How to get Discord
You can use Discord from your web browser. Visiting discord.com allows you to open Discord that way or download the Discord client you can install on your PC. There are also phone apps for Discord. The Safety Library on the official Discord page has some information to keep you safe on Discord. You can use strong passwords and 2 factor authentication to keep your Discord account safe. It is preferred if R4s and R5 of the alliance with permissions to moderate the server have these security measures and if their e-mail should be also safe.
While we can assume most of our members are nice, friendly and trying to help, we have seen that even the game has quite a few bullies and abusive personalities. On Discord you can meet people who play other games, or join communities for various other applications. Yes, big tools like Adobe Firefly, MidJourney, Suno, etc. also have discord communities with thousands of people. Official servers for popular games like The Sims series might have tens of thousands or maybe hundreds of thousands users. There is no way to make sure no spammers, no scammers, no abusive people visit those servers. So you should make sure to protect any personal information, pictures, etc.
Discord is a valuable tool used by tens of millions of users at a time, but it is a popular tool, that is used by friends, good communities, good companies and bad criminals. So we kindly ask you to report any suspicious activity on our Discord to our R4 team, our R5 or moderators / admins of our Discord server.
How to get access
Look for invite links in Alliance Mail, Alliance Notice or ask an R4 for it. Please contact an R4 to set up your roles so you have all the permissions you might need.
Server setup / Roadmap
Starting a Discord server takes less than a minute, explaining important security and safety information to make sure you can safely use it takes longer time. Fully setting up everything on our Discord server to keep you happy there will take more time. But we are planning to do it together with your feedback in mind. But we are certain that users on our Discord servers will have different roles based on membership in the alliance(s) and their rank there. On Our Discord server please set up to use your in game name if possible and please request a role confirming your alliance membership.
Data Protection
If you are in USz you probably know that Elvanshalee is named after a tabletop RPG character of mine, Narcelia is also named after such character, and I tend to protect real life information, by not revealing my RL name, my RL gender, and only revealing my Hungarian origins because it is important that people are free to talk to me in Hungarian. In smaller groups like private chats with people I already know people might learn more about hobbies, name, living situation, etc. but I keep my private information safe and I suggest you to do it as well.
Please consider using the "Content & Social" tab of your setting to set up limits on Friend Requests, DMs to ensure your safety and security.
Secure passwords for the win
While the official guide for Discord says:
Discord will require your password to be at least 8 characters long. Certain regions in the world may have additional requirements.
I would like to add some tips about choosing a secure password, which can be even more important when you set up passwords for a password manager. Sooner or later you can learn even a very strong password, and a password manager requires you to only remember one single secure password and they allow very long passwords, that can be whole sentences or more. But you can have a seemingly random password made easily. Please look at the following password: ASoMD2ékŰ7(x5mR7N(x5mMefTniTh9mC6v7mLkniA5tsLni
It has 298 bits of Entropy and people who don't know how do I generate this password would have very hard time to guess the password. But I can remember to use "the very first character for every word(numbers and symbols included)" from the data table associated with an entry in the Hungarian edition about an encyclopedia of handguns. Szép is the name of a rifle, a family name of the designer of that rifle, but it also means beautiful in Hungarian. If I know which book I use, how I use it, and can have a very simple reminder to help me which gun to look up.
Some of my lawyer friends learned to use our criminal code in a creative way. Use every 3rd or 5th character from some paragraphs. It often also meets all password complexity requirements. You can look up data from manuals, you can even use little rticks like "the first letter from every line of some lyrics, followed by a number telling how many letters that line has, and any punctuation", you can have rules set up for capitalization. While there are more advanced methods to create long passwords, these are usually strong enough.
